Al, Australia is phasing out analogue TV but hasn't yet done so. However what you actually want to choose is between "standard definition" and "high definition" TV reception. If you're visiting this year you should still be able to get the older "standard definition" signals nearly anywhere there is a population centre, Australia wide. But you're unlikely to receive much signal on a USB stick without also having an external antenna to connect it up to. I'll leave it to others to comment on what is the best combination there.

Cheers, John

A number of areas have already switched to digital only, regional SA and Vic and Broken Hill are cases in point. Regional Qld switch is second half of this year. Whether terrestrial digital reception is available in all areas is debatable. Depending where you are Sat TV (VAST) may be the only alternative.
By the way standard and high definition apply to digital TV not analogue.

Al, I've tried a number of different models over a number of years and unless you have a really properly set up antenna then don't waste your money. I prefer to have a lot of converted movies and tv series sitting on the laptop instead. Good for traveling overseas as well unless you like watching CNN over and over......and over. Mike

If you go for High Definition Digital you will need a top end computer as the average ones do not have the speed.

Hi Al

When we are touring, we don't have the time or the inclination to watch television; we are too busy absorbing all we have seen, downloading photos, writing diary or researching the next place we are to visit. It would be a rude interruption to the peace and serenity of the land. We watched a couple of DVDs one day three years ago when the weather was cold and windy and no good for touring or being outside.

As we prefer to camp out of towns; in the bush or in National Parks, we would be unlikely to get regular television even if we wanted to watch it. We stay informed of the major events of the world when in internet reception areas via news headline websites, and when out of internet area, the car radio will usually pick up a signal if needing a weather forecast or news update.

We enjoyed not getting all the 'bad news' or political infighting that is broadcast on television so much, that in the year or so since our last big trip, we have rarely turned the television on at home. Lovely.
